Youth Coalition

Empowering Students for Positive Change

Our growing youth coalition is a group of students who are working together to address specific issues or advocate for positive changes within their community. Our youth coalition is a way for young people to create a collective and impactful voice, engage in community initiatives, and work towards achieving common goals.

Here are key characteristics of what we strive for with our youth coalition:

  • Youth-Led

We work to be peer led and driven by young individuals. Their leadership ensures that the perspectives, experiences, and priorities of young people are central to the coalition’s activities and decision-making.

  • Collective Action

Our YC emphasizes the power of collective action. By uniting their efforts, young people can amplify their impact, influence decision-makers, and bring about positive change in their community.

  • Advocacy and Empowerment

The youth involved often engage in advocacy work, seeking to influence policies, practices, or attitudes that impact youth. They aim to empower other young people to actively participate in the decision-making processes that affect their lives.

  • Community Engagement

Our YC is rooted in Tioga County schools and communities. We work to actively engage with community members, organizations, and stakeholders to address local issues and contribute to the well-being of the community as a whole.

  • Diversity and Inclusion

Our youth coalition embraces diversity, welcoming individuals from different backgrounds, cultures, and experiences. This inclusivity enriches the coalition’s perspective and effectiveness.

  • Skill Development

The students we work with have opportunities for skill development. Members gain leadership, communication, teamwork, and advocacy skills that can benefit them in various aspects of their lives.

  • Issue-Focused

Our YC members organize around specific issues or causes that are relevant to the well-being and interests of young people. These issues could range from substance misuse prevention to mental health awareness, education, or environmental sustainability.

  • Networking

Our youth collaborate with other organizations, agencies, or coalitions working towards similar goals. Networking allows them to share resources, knowledge, and best practices.

  • Positive Youth Development

Our youth coalition fosters positive youth development by providing a platform for young people to contribute to their community, develop a sense of purpose, and build connections with peers and mentors.
